The Rotary Club of South Queensferry Abseil Challenge

Sunday 1st August 2010

Register now to take part in The Rotary Club of South Queensferry's Abseil Challenge on Sunday the 1st of August 2010. It only costs £20 in advanced sponsorship to register. Money raised will be split between Queensferry Church Care in the Community (QCCC) and the Children's Hospice Association Scotland (CHAS).

Under the direction of expert instructors, entrants will have the thrill of vertically descending 165ft from the Forth Bridge to the beach below. It will cost £20 per person to enter and a minimum of £120 sponsorship is required. We hope the event will attract people who would have entered a rafting team in the Forth Raft Race as well as those excited by the chance to abseil from one of Scotland’s best known landmarks.

Pre-register here to avoid disappointment!

President Stuart RidgePresident's message

I was very honoured to be handed the chain on Thursday the 24th June, marking the start of my presidency of The Rotary Club of South Queensferry. Thank you for electing me; I will do my best to be worthy of it.

July sees the start of another busy year for the club. The first quarter is normally very quiet, building up to Christmas. Not so this time, with two new and very exciting projects. We are at the Hopetoun Summer fair on 25 July where we will be holding a silent auction. Visitors will have a chance to bid on items as diverse as a visit to the top of the Forth Rail Bridge and a Kris Kristofferson concert. Full details will appear elsewhere on this page with a link to enable you to bid online before the event. In addition, entries for the Children’s Art Competition will also be on display in the marquee. This is the eleventh year this has taken place and we are most grateful for the continued support from Tesco to allow this to take place.

You can also learn about membership of Rotary – the largest service organisation in the world.

Sunday the 1st of August sees our first abseil from the top of the rail bridge, courtesy of Network Rail. Hopefully, this will provide a fitting replacement for the Raft Race, which the club has run over the last twenty-four years. It is not too late to enter. Just click on the link above and take the first step.

President Graham Clarkson
