President's message
One month in and what a time it has been. We have introduced two new events – Hopetoun Summer Fair and the Forth Rail Bridge Abseil. Both were highly successful and encouraged many of the members to come and support the ventures.
The Summer Fair raised over £1,400 to help us fund charitable activities locally and we thank Hopetoun House and many local businesses for their assistance. The Children’s Art Competition drew the crowds and the Shelter Box display generated a good deal of interest. It was good to answer the question “What is Rotary?” to a considerable number of people.
The Summer Fair also saw the completion of our annual raffle. Yet again, the generosity of BAA, Edinburgh helped to make this very successful, with over £1,000 raised.
The Forth Bridge Abseil was an outstanding success and a real pleasure to be involved in it. My thanks go to Network Rail for making the event possible and to all those who took part, as participants and helpers. The team from Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme were a joy to work with.
We are now taking some time out to plan our Christmas events programme. We will be looking at a possible event in the autumn, to support our International activities.
President Graham Clarkson
Pakistan International Relief
The Rotary Club of South Queensferry has donated a ShelterBox as part of their contribution to assist Pakistan. Rotary International Britain and Ireland have set up a disaster appeal for those wishing to donate further. The web page is:
http://www.ribi.org/ribi-donations-trust
The site details how the RIBI Donations Trust was formed, what it does and which areas it has helped so far; it is also possible to use gift aid for your donation.
Postal donations to this fund should be made payable to the "RIBI Donations Trust" and sent to: Rotary International in Great Britain &Ireland, Kilwarton Road, Alcester, Warwickshire. B49 6PB.

Stopgap Abseil proves bonanza for charities
A first for our club in organising an abseil and what a success it was. All the participants appeared to enjoy themselves and the spectators were in fine voice, shouting encouragement and applauding as they descended the ropes.
It was a very good partnership between the club and Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme and we should comfortably exceed our target of £10,000, for CHAS and QCCC. The proceeds will be divided according to the wishes of the participants. More information will appear here, as the proceeds are reconciled.
We are most grateful to Network Rail for allowing us to hold the event. We recognise their continued support for this club. We hope that this will become an annual event for us. We also had a great deal of support from members and their families, together with Rotarians from far and wide. We even had a visitor from Grand Cayman, keen to know more about the event. President Elect Graham Clarkson took the reigns at our club handover meeting on Thursday the 24th of June 2010. President Stuart
Ridge and assembled Rotarian's took great delight in warmly welcoming our new President. Read his message above.

The communities of Kirkliston, South Queensferry & Dalmeny joined forces for our inaugural ‘Dalmeny Dawdle’ - a charity walk to Dalmeny Church in aid of projects in the developing world that are supported by our local churches. A successful morning aided by the glorious weather raised £180. Well done to Grainger and his team

Our photographic competition took place on Friday 9 April at Kirkliston Bowling Club. Great food, company and photos were the order of the evening with Graham and Beverley Clarkson taking the top two honours. Many thanks to all those who contributed and to Grainger and his team for a great night.
